Pet Loss

Pets fill our hearts and home with incomparable love and joy. The death of a pet is a very difficult experience for many people, but it is especially difficult to seniors who spend the majority, if not all their time, with their furry companion, when familial and work obligations demand greater chunks of time from their adult children.

If you know somebody experiencing the death of a pet, offer your condolences just as if they had lost a human loved one. Be understanding if that person takes a while longer to grieve. It depends on that person whether they are ready to welcome a new pet into their lives.

Just like Spider Man’s grandmother said, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Dogs have the power to make us feel loved but they also have the power to unknowingly break our hearts when their contract expires on earth and they cross over to the other side. However, their responsibility to us, in other words, their loyalty, never wavers. For some, this lifelong loyalty is enough to make the pain of saying goodbye, well worth the effort that goes into sharing a life with these amazingly loving creatures.
